Moores Hill Estate Winery Cellar Doors is a refined example of adaptive reuse, transforming an existing structure into a warm, welcoming space within Tasmania’s Tamar Valley. Set on a northeast-facing hillside near Exeter, 120 metres above sea level, the vineyard enjoys ideal northern aspect and elevation. The design invites visitors to pause and take in the panoramic views across the valley floor, with large openings framing the landscape and creating a continuous dialogue between the interior and the landscape beyond.

Inside, the cellar doors is an intimate, grounded space that reflects the character of the estate. The use of warm, natural materials creates a tactile, earthy palette that blends seamlessly with the surrounding hillside. These elements convey both permanence and warmth, giving visitors a space that feels both handcrafted and deeply rooted in place.

Moores Hill Estate is proudly 100% solar powered, harvesting all its own water and treating all winery waste on-site through a closed-loop system, positioning the estate as a leader in environmentally responsible wine production. These sustainability principles are integrated into the architecture—not just as technical solutions but as visible expressions of the estate’s values.

At its heart, this project is about connection—to the land, to family, to craftsmanship, and to the shared experience of wine. The cellar door is not just a place to taste; it is a place to slow down, gather, and immerse oneself in the natural beauty and quiet confidence of the Tamar Valley.
